GDT sponsored a Debating Tournament which was hosted by the DUT Debating Union between 2 and 4 December 2016. More than 50 contestants, drawn from Debating Unions from several South African universities, took part in this tournament. Hillary Musarurwa attended some of the sessions and witnessed young minds engage in robust debate on pertinent global issues. Some of the topics were: the US elections, the usage of social media and algorithm manipulation to promote or demote online election campaigns for some candidates as well as how the unfolding political trends in western country impact on South Africa.
