{"id":1709,"date":"2016-07-21T23:23:43","date_gmt":"2016-07-21T21:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.satyagraha.org.za\/word\/?p=914"},"modified":"2017-11-09T15:54:40","modified_gmt":"2017-11-09T13:54:40","slug":"atrocities-in-the-middle-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gdt.org.za\/gdt\/atrocities-in-the-middle-east\/","title":{"rendered":"Atrocities in the Middle East"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.satyagraha.org.za\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Atrocities-in-the-Middle-East.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-933 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.satyagraha.org.za\/word\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Atrocities-in-the-Middle-East.png\" alt=\"Atrocities in the Middle East\" width=\"248\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The recent attacks on innocent people in major cities of the Middle East countries has once again raised the notion of religious differences being at the root of brutality.\u00a0\u00a0 There is also a fear that South Africans could also be aiding these people.<\/p>\n<p>We believe that both these notions are false, as all the world\u2019s religions proclaim compassion, peace, love and goodwill as being central to their religious beliefs.\u00a0 The scriptures\u00a0 proclaim these ideals in no uncertain terms.\u00a0 Here are two International\u00a0 multi faith organisations which have condemned the violence.<\/p>\n<p>KAICIID (King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for\u00a0 intercultural and interreligious dialogue)\u00a0 is an intergovernmental\u00a0organisation mandated to promote\u00a0dialogue among different religious and cultural groups to promote justice, peace and reconciliation and to\u00a0counteract the abuse of religion to justify violence. The Centre is\u00a0\u00a0governed\u00a0by a multi-religious Board of Directors, consisting\u00a0of representatives of five religions &#8211; Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement they expressed their sorrow at the deaths and injuries caused by acts of terrorism in Medina, Baghdad, Dhaka and Istanbul.\u00a0 They called for unity among all faiths and a plea to work for peace and dialogue rather than war and hatred.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly religious believers in Religions for Peace&#8212; \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 representing all major religious traditions and every region of the world&#8212; \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0extended their solidarity with all those suffering from the cruel and senseless acts of terror<\/p>\n<p>They committed themselves to supporting Religions for Peace multi-religious affiliates in the Middle East Asia, Europe and around the world to serve as ever more effective instruments in building bridges of peace.<\/p>\n<p>This indicates that it is a small group of self serving individuals who are perpetrating these atrocities and not any religion.\u00a0\u00a0 We call on all people to unite against these small pockets of \u201cterrorists\u201d and let us isolate them , for it is only with our help that they are able to exist, if we take a conscious decision to discontinue that support they will soon stop.\u00a0 For the survival of humanity this step is now more essential than ever before.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; The recent attacks on innocent people in major cities of the Middle East countries has once again raised the notion of religious differences being at the root of brutality.\u00a0\u00a0 There is also a fear that South Africans could also be aiding these people.
